Books We Shared

Rabbit Pie is an adorable book by Penny Ives, which shares a mama bunny’s recipe for “Rabbit Pie,” a perfect bedtime recipe: take six rabbits, a game of hide-and-seek, a soapy bath and a warm bed, and make sure to sprinkle lots of kisses!

Bunnies by Laura Ellen Anderson offers lots of action prompts to share with a group and get kids to participate by jumping and thumping along.

Puppets

We used puppets to perform the song “Little Bunny Foo Foo”:

Little Bunny Foo Foo

Little bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ’em on the head!
Down came the good fairy
And the good fairy said:
“Little bunny Foo Foo, I don’t wanna see you
Scooping up the field mice and boppin’ ’em on the head!
I’m gonna give you two more chances,
Then I’m gonna turn you into a toad!”
Little bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ’em on the head!
Down came the good fairy
And the good fairy said:
“Little bunny Foo Foo, I don’t wanna see you
Scooping up the field mice and boppin’ ’em on the head!
I’m gonna give you one more chance,
Then I’m gonna turn you into a toad!”
Little bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ’em on the head!
Well, the good fairy was mad now and little bunny Foo Foo had to run away…

My bunny puppet went and hid under the tablecloth, and the fairy left too. So we said, “Come out, Foo Foo! The coast is clear!” And what do you think came out of the tablecloth?

Then we recited the “Here comes a bunny” song (see farther down), a magic spell to turn Foo Foo back into a bunny. 🙂

Flannel Boards

Five little bunnies standing by the door.
One hopped away and then there were four.
Four little bunnies sitting by a tree.
One hopped away and then there were three.
Three little bunnies looking right at you.
One hopped away and then there were two.
Two little bunnies enjoying the sun.
One hopped away and then there was one.
One little bunny, all alone.
He hopped away, and then there were none.

Songs and Rhymes We Shared Without Music

Here is a Bunny

Here is a bunny with ears so funny (hold up index and middle fingers for ears)
And here is his hole in the ground (make a circle with the other hand)
At the first sound he hears, he pricks up his ears (extend two fingers)
And hops in the hole in the ground (fingers jump into the hole)

Here Comes a Bunny

Here comes a bunny–hippity-hop (hop)
With ears so funny–flippity-flop (wiggle fingers on sides of head)
When in danger he–sniffity-sniffs (wiggle nose)
Then hides in his hole–jiffity-jiff! (cover eyes)

Fleas

On my toe there is a flea
Now he’s climbing on my knee
Past my tummy, past my nose
On my head where my hair grows
On my head there is a flea
Now he’s climbing down on me
Past my tummy, past my knee
On my toe… Take that, you flea!
