For the fifth  meeting of our spring session we read books about PANDAS!  We read about a Panda who was busy baking donuts AND a Panda who went on his first play date.  Here are the books, rhymes, fingerplays, flannel boards, action songs and video we shared.

BOOKS WE SHARED

In Michael Dahl’s Playdate for Panda, Panda goes over to Fox’s house for his first play date.  Panda is a bit shy and doesn’t know what to expect but as soon as Fox opens the door it’s nothing but fun and excitement.  Fortunately, Panda forgets all about his fears and has a great time!!!

In I’ll Wait Mr. Panda by Steven Antony, a penguin patiently waits while Mr. Panda bakes something delicious.  Many other animals come by wanting to know what Mr. Panda is making, but when he asks them to wait and see…they just don’t have the patience.  Meanwhile, a tiny penguin keeps saying that he’ll wait.  When that little penguin finally loses patience and yells:  “I’LL WAIT MR. PANDA!”, he is rewarded with the most delectable donut!  A funny tale that teaches patience and has the element of anticipation and surprise!

Five Hungry Pandas

Five little pandas eating bamboo,
They chomp, chomp, chomped and they chew, chew, chewed;
One little panda crawled away,
But four furry pandas decided to stay!

Four little pandas eating bamboo,
They chomp, chomp, chomped and they chew, chew, chewed;
One little panda ran away,
But three furry pandas decided to stay!

Three little pandas eating bamboo
They chomp, chomp, chomped and they chew, chew, chewed;
One little panda rolled away,
But two furry pandas decided to stay!

Two little pandas eating bamboo,
They chomp, chomp, chomped and they chew, chew, chewed;
One little panda skipped away
But one furry panda decided to stay!

One little panda eating bamboo,
He chomp, chomp, chomped and he chew, chew, chewed;
This little panda decided to play,
So he ran to join the others that day!

Now we’re here let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun

Open Shut Them – Video:  Open Shut Them

Open, shut them, open, shut them, (open and close hands)
Give a little clap, clap, clap.  (clap three times)
Open shut them, open shut them (open and close hands)
Put them in your lap, lap, lap. (place hands in lap and bounce them 3X)

Creep them, crawl them, creep them crawl them, (crawl fingers up arms)
Right up to your chinny  chin chin. (place fingers on chin)
Open up your little mouth (open mouth and say ahhhhhh)
But do not put them in!! (put hands behind your back)

NEW! I am a Panda
(tune of You Are My Sunshine)

I am a panda
A furry panda
I live in China
And eat bamboo
It is a thick grass
That grows in my land
And it’s not that easy to chew.

This is Big, Big Big – Video:  This is Big

This is big big big
Hold arms out to side

This is small small small
Cup hands together

This is short short short
Hold hands with palms facing each other

This is tall tall tall
Reach one hand above head

This is fast fast fast
Circle fists quickly

This is slow slow slow
Circle fists slowly

This is yes yes yes
Nod

This is no no no
Shake head
