Our theme for the SIXTH storytime of the spring session was DINOSAURS!  We read all about the different dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago and we read about a dinosaur eager for his first real kiss!

What follows are the books, bounces, nursery rhymes, fingerplays and flannel boards we shared.

Meet Teddy our T-Rex!  He joined us for storytime!

BOOKS WE SHARED

Byron Barton’s colorful book, Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs is great for toddlers.  Not only does it tell you about the different dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago, it offers opportunities to talk about colors and shapes.  Definitely a great introduction into these prehistoric creatures.

In David Ezra Stein’s Dinosaur Kisses, we meet a dinosaur who just can’t wait to kiss someone.  Unfortunately, its a bit of a problem…he doesn’t realize his own strength!  He finally meets his match when he finds a baby dinosaur who’s just hatched and VOILA – kiss, kiss, kiss!  A really fun, cute story about a clumsy dinosaur looking for love in all the wrong places!

FLANNEL BOARDS WE SHARED

Dinosaur, Dinosaur!

We had to find our baby dinosaur so we looked behind each door.  We finally found her behind the “BLUE” door but not before we met up with a lot of other creatures!

Our rhyme:

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the RED door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Oink, Oink…NO!  It’s a pig!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the PURPLE  door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Ribbet, ribbet…NO!  It’s a frog!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the ORANGE door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  ROAR!!!  Well that’s a ROAR but it’s not a dinosaur!  It’s a tiger!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the GREY door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Cheep, cheep…NO!  It’s a bird!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the BLUE door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  ROAR!!!  YES!  It’s our dinosaur!

Action Songs, Rhymes & Bounces We Shared

We share a lot of songs, bounces & rhymes during storytime!
You’ll find lyrics/words to those songs & rhymes we shared without CD accompaniment here.

Welcome Song
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Video:  Twinkle Twinkle

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are.

Dickery Dickery Dare (bounce)

Video:  Dickery Dickery Dare

Dickery dickery dare,
The pig flew up in the air –
Wooooo!
The man in brown,
Brought him back down,
Dickery dickery dare!

It’s me!  Bringing you a bit of a bounce at home!  See you next Tuesday!

The Grand Old Duke of York (bounce)

Video:  The Grand Old Duke of York

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.

 Peas Porridge Hot! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  Peas Porridge Hot

Peas porridge hot
Peas porridge cold
Peas porridge in the pot, nine days old!
Some like it hot
Some like it cold
Some like it in the pot, nine days old!

Tickle:  Round and round the garden, goes the Teddy Bear, a one-step, a two-step, a tickle under there.

One Two Buckle My Shoe! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  One Two Buckle My Shoe

One, two, buckle my shoe;

Three, four, knock at the door;

Five, six, pick up sticks;

Seven, eight, lay them straight:

Nine, ten, a big fat hen!

Goodbye Friends (song in sign)

Click here for video:  Goodbye Babies (Friends)
