Our theme for the fourth storytime of the spring session was Birds that Hatch! We read about a little chick, a silly goose and tried to figure out which egg housed Baby Duck! Here are the stories, songs, rhymes, bounces and flannelboard we shared.
he first book we read during our storytime was This Little Chick by John Lawrence. In it Little Chick learns the sounds of the different animals in the barnyard…he oinks with the pigs, moooos with the cows, baaaaas with the sheep and more! When he finally gets home to his mama, he has all sorts of things to say besides peep. A great book for learning about farm animals and the sounds they make – it also helps children with some of their long and short vowel sounds (A-E-I-O-U).
Our second book was Silly Little Goose by Nancy Tafuri. Silly Little Goose is trying to find a safe, cozy, quiet place to lay her eggs. She has a really tough time though! Every time she thinks she’s found a spot, she learns it already belongs to another animal. Eventually she does find a big, cozy, warm hat (in a quiet spot) to lay her eggs and…”crack, crack,crack…” – her baby goslings pop right out! Nancy Tafuri writes picture books that are perfect to read aloud to infants and toddlers. Her storylines are linear and easy to follow and the accompanying illustrations are bold, clear and bright.
