Our theme for the SEVENTH storytime of the spring session was BABIES!  We read about a cute little baby playing peekaboo before bedtime and we explored a book that taught us how other animals play peekaboo!  (Here’s a hint:  They don’t actually say peekaboo!)

What follows are the books, bounces, nursery rhymes, fingerplays and flannel boards we shared.

[We started with a little tickle rhyme to get us going!  I brought out our library baby, Ralphie!  He helped us point to our fingers, toes, ears, nose and bellybutton!]

THESE ARE BABY’S FINGERS

These are baby’s fingers (touch baby’s fingers)

These are baby’s toes (touch baby’s toes)

This is baby’s bellybutton, round and round it goes (use your finger to circle baby’s bellybutton)

These are baby’s eyes, (point to baby’s eyes)

This is baby’s nose, (touch baby’s nose)

This is baby’s tummy button where mommy and daddy blow. (use your finger to tickle baby’s bellybutton)

These are Baby’s Fingers (shorter version) by PPL librarian, Jennifer Driscoll!

BOOKS WE SHARED

In Peekaboo Bedtime by Rachel Isadora, we see a beautiful baby playing peekaboo with mommy and daddy, with granny and grandpa, with the moon and with his toys, all while getting ready for bedtime!  Beautifully illustrated with simple text, this is a perfect read aloud or bedtime story for an infant.

Peek-A-Moo by Marie Torres Cimarusti is a fun book that introduces babies to the different things animals say.  A cow says peek-a-moo while a pig says peek-a-oink…what about a duck?  Why peek-a-quack!  Then of course we finally get to a baby!  What does baby say?  I think you can guess.  A colorful, lift-the-flap book that teaches, engages and keeps babies on their toes!

FLANNEL BOARDS WE SHARED

Hush, Little Baby

Hush, little baby, don’t say a word.
Papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird won’t sing,
Papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring

And if that looking glass gets broke,
Papa’s gonna buy you a billy goat

And if that billy goat won’t pull,
Papa’s gonna buy you a cart and bull

And if that cart and bull turn over,
Papa’s gonna buy you a dog named Rover

Here’s a version of Hush Little Baby that is very similar to the one we sang together in storytime!

Action Songs, Rhymes & Bounces We Shared

We share a lot of songs, bounces & rhymes during storytime!
You’ll find lyrics/words to those songs & rhymes we shared without CD accompaniment here.

Welcome Song
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Video:  Twinkle Twinkle

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are.

Dickery Dickery Dare (bounce)

Video:  Dickery Dickery Dare

Dickery dickery dare,
The pig flew up in the air –
Wooooo!
The man in brown,
Brought him back down,
Dickery dickery dare!

The Grand Old Duke of York (bounce)

Video:  The Grand Old Duke of York

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.

 Peas Porridge Hot! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  Peas Porridge Hot

Peas porridge hot
Peas porridge cold
Peas porridge in the pot, nine days old!
Some like it hot
Some like it cold
Some like it in the pot, nine days old!

Tickle:  Round and round the garden, goes the Teddy Bear, a one-step, a two-step, a tickle under there.

One Two Buckle My Shoe! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  One Two Buckle My Shoe

One, two, buckle my shoe;

Three, four, knock at the door;

Five, six, pick up sticks;

Seven, eight, lay them straight:

Nine, ten, a big fat hen!

Goodbye Friends (song in sign)
