Even though it was sunny outside, we shared stories about rain at a recent Infant Storytime.
Books We Shared
In The Rainy Day Puddle by Ei Nakabayashi, a little frog finds a puddle that is the perfect size for him. But as the rain keeps falling, so does that puddle — and that’s a good thing, because a whole lot of animals want to join frog!
Our second story was also about animals having fun in the rain. In Rain Dance, by Kathi Appelt, with pictures by Emilie Chollat animals count and prance their way through the story as the rain falls.

Five little raindrops
(hold up five fingers)
Dancing on the walk
(move hand from side to side)
Pitter patter, pitter patter, that’s the way they talk.
(pat hands on legs to make a pitter patter noise)
Out comes the yellow sun, shining in the sky
(raise arms up like the sun, if using a flannel sun piece, hold this up)
And away goes one raindrop
(take away a raindrop)
Bye, bye, bye!
(wave goodbye)

The mouse ran up the clock (tickle baby up one side)
The clock struck one (lift baby up in the air as you say, “Ding Dong!”)
The mouse ran down (tickle baby down other side)

Repeat this as a bounce having clock strike two, three, etc, and lift your little ones in the air as many times as the clock strikes.

Cuckoo! (Lift baby up in the air)

Cuckoo! Cuckoo! (Lift baby up in the air on each cuckoo)
Repeat with as many clock strikes as you would like, and lift your little one up in the air the appropriate amount of times.
Patty Cake
Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man (clap hands together)
Bake me a cake as fast as you can (clap hands together)
Roll it (roll one hand over the other)
And pat it (pat legs)
And mark it with a “B” (make the letter B on baby’s tummy)
And put it in the oven for Baby and me! (hands flat, then point to baby, then you.)
These are Baby’s Fingers
These are baby’s fingers (touch baby’s fingers)
and these are baby’s toes. (touch baby’s toes)
And this is baby’s belly button (touch belly button)
Round and round it goes. (tickle around bellybutton)

Hands up high! (Put your hands in air)
