Our fourth storytime of the summer session was all about colors!  Here are the books, songs, rhymes, flannel activity and video we shared.


Books We Shared

  

In Sebastien Braun’s Meeow and the Blue Table, we are introduced to Meeow.   Meeow is a black cat.  Meeow invites his friends over to play but it’s raining.  What do they do?  They play inside and use the items in Meeow’s toy chest to make all sorts of colorful costumes.  There is also a red table cloth and a blue table.  You’ll have to read the story to see how those fit in.   So much color fun in one book!  The clean lines and bright, contrasting colors make this a good fit for toddlers.  There is also the storyline which involves play, imagination and a “castles and dragons” theme ~ definite “toddler” crowd pleasers.

Maisy’s Rainbow Dream by Lucy Cousins is a veritable dream of colors!  Maisy, our favorite mouse, dreams of a red ladybug, an orange fish, a yellow bee, a green leaf, a blue clock…the list goes on and on!  Of course the book closes with an amazingly bright, bold rainbow.  And her dream world is so beautiful! The visuals in this picture book pop with color and clean, clear lines – all a plus for baby’s developing eyesight


Flannel Board We Shared

Rainbow Stew

   

Take an apple;
put it in the pot
Stir and stir and stir a lot!
Shall we take it out now?  What will it be?
The prettiest red you ever did see!

Just repeat this chant substituting the other fruits and colors. When you’re done, sing:

Red and orange, yellow and green
Blue and purple colors are seen
Put them together, what will it be?
The prettiest rainbow you ever did see!
