On Tuesday, we began our Fall session for infant toddler storytime!  We started things off with a classic fall theme: Apples!

Books We Shared

Our first story was Apple by Nikki McClure.  This beautiful book uses single words and black, white and red images to tell the journey of an apple from tree, to pocket, to compost, to tree.

The second book we shared was Pepo and Lolo and the Red Apple by Ana Martin Larrañaga.  Pepo the pig and Lolo the chick want a beautiful red apple from the tree.  But it is too high, and they cannot reach it!  Will these two friends figure out a way to get the yummy apple?  Of course they will — using teamwork!  Unfortunately, we no longer have a copy of this for check out in the library, but you can check out the other book in the Pepo and Lolo series.

Flannel Board Story

The Apple Tree

(the photo here has 4 apples, but we did this rhyme using three…)

Way up high in the apple tree (lift baby up into air)
3 little apples smiled at me (smile at baby)
I shook that tree just as hard as I could (lower baby to lap and gently bounce)
And down came an apple! (“drop” baby between knees)
Mmmmm… was it good! (rub baby’s belly)

How many apples are left?  2!

Way up high in the apple tree (lift baby up into air)
2 little apples smiled at me…

Rhymes & Bounces & Songs We Shared without Music

We sing a lot of songs during storytime!  You’ll find lyrics to those songs without music here.

Welcome Song
(to the tune of: “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”)
Welcome, welcome everyone
Now we’re here let’s have some fun.
First we clap our hands just so
Then we bend and touch our toes
Welcome, welcome everyone
Now we’re here let’s have some fun.

Peek-a-Boo
(to the tune of :”Frere Jacques”)
Peek-a-boo. Peek-a-boo. (cover eyes with hands, then remove)
I see you, I see you (point at child)
I see your little nose (touch nose)
I see your tiny toes (touch toes)
Peek-a-boo. Peek-a-boo. (cover eyes with hands, then remove)

Ride a Little Pony Bounce
Ride a little pony (bounce baby gently on knees)
going to town.
Better watch out or you might
fall down! (gentle guide baby through your legs to floor)

Patty Cake
Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man (clap hands together)
Bake me a cake as fast as you can (clap hands together)
Roll it (roll one hand over the other)
And pat it (pat legs)
And mark it with a “B” (make the letter B on baby’s tummy)
And put it in the oven for Baby and me! (hands flat, then point to baby, then you.)

Round and Round the Garden Tickle
Round and round the garden (gently circle round baby’s belly button with finger)
Goes the teddy bear.
A one step (move your fingers and tickle baby up the belly)
A two step (move your fingers and tickle baby up the belly)
A tickly under there (tickle baby under chin)

Storytime’s Over
Hands up high! (Put your hands in air)
Now give a big sigh (sigh and bring hands down)
Our storytime’s over
So wave bye-bye (wave)

Music from CDs We Shared

Sometimes it’s fun to sing along with music.  Here are some of the songs and cds used in storytime.

I take my little feet and go tap tap tap
Tap tap all day long

I take my little knees and go bend bend bend
I take my little knees and go bend bend bend
I take my little knees and go bend bend bend
Bend, bend all day long

“Itsy Bitsy Spider” from It’s Toddler Time by Carol Hammett and Elaine Bueffel

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried out all the rain.
So the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” from Walt Disney’s Children’s Favorite Songs Volume 1

Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are.

Like a diamond in the sky.

How I wonder what you are.
