It was all about music in our toddler storytime today!  We sang songs and did some jazz scat…here are some of the books, songs & activities we shared:

OUR FIRST BOOK:

A high energy foray into jazz by Lisa Wheeler and R. Gregory Christie, Jazz Baby will have your toddlers clappin’ and bee boppin’ to that rooty toot toot sound.  “Go Daddy Go!” says Jazz Baby who listens to sister snap, Granny scat and Uncle soft shoe…a great introduction into the rhythm of the jazz beat.  Great fun for the toddler groups – one toddler couldn’t stop laughing at those crazy sounds.  Really fun read for a music-themed storytime.

OUR SECOND BOOK:

little white duck

Great visuals and words that can be read or sung!  This is a classic children’s song made into book form, with lyrics by Walt Whippo and illustrations by Joan Paley.  The main characters are the narrator (a little mouse playing the guitar and singing the song), a little white duck (who starts everything off), a little green frog, a little black bug and, for drama, a little red snake (who ends up eating the black bug and scaring everyone else away).  Big hit with the toddlers!


 

OUR MOVEMENT SONG with Instruments:
