Infant & Toddler Time – Apples

The first meeting of our fall session of Infant and Toddler Storytime was ALL about APPLES – the juicy kind! Here are some of the stories and activities we shared about our theme!

Stories

During our infant storytime, we read about Pepo and Lolo’s quest to reach a red, juicy apple stuck way up high in an apple tree. It took an ingenious plan and some teamwork to make that apple fall and boy was it yummy! We also shared a board book by Yusuke Yonezu titled 5 Little Apples. It is a colorful countdown book filled with animals (large and small) who take away the apples one by one. There is a beautiful surprise at the end though!

During toddler storytime, we shared Monica Wellington’s book, Apple Farmer Annie. Annie grows many kinds of apples in her orchard. When they’re ripe, she picks some to make apple cider, applesauce AND all sorts of yummy baked goods. However, she saves the BEST apples to sell at the market. We also read about Pepo and Lolo…just because it has so many elements that make a dynamic story for both infants and toddlers.

INFANT STORYTIME

Little Jack Horner sat in a corner,

Eating his pudding pie.

He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum

And said, “What a good boy am I!”

TODDLER STORYTIME

5 LITTLE APPLES

5 little apples in a bowl,

One fell out and started to roll,

It hit the table and bumped my feet,

How many apples left to eat? (4, 3, 2, 1)

Movement Activity

Way Up High in the Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree (point upward)
I saw two apples looking at me (point two fingers toward you)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (pretend to shake trunk of tree)
Down fell the apples, mmmmm, they were good! (rub tummy)

Open, shut them. (hands palms out with fingers stretched, then close into fists)
