Miss Marie was sick last week, so I (Jennifer) got to share in the fun at infant/toddler storytime.  We had a tasty theme — Fruit! We started with Orange Pear Apple Bear by Emily Gravett.  This story uses only 5 words throughout the whole book, but manages to convey a fun story with just those and its wonderful illustrations.

For our second book, we learned that things aren’t always as the appear!  We shared Guess What? – Fruit by Yusuke Yonezu.  In this bright, lift the flap board book fruit magically transforms into different animals!

We celebrated delicious berries with the help of our friend mouse puppet, and the flannelboard rhyme:

Five Red Strawberries

FiveRedStrawberriesFlannelbaord

Five red strawberries, sweet to the core.
Mouse came and ate one and then there were four.

Four red strawberries, growing near a tree.
Mouse came and ate one and then there were three.

Three red strawberries, for you and you and you.
Mouse came and ate one and then there were two.

Two red strawberries, sitting in the sun.
Mouse came and ate one and then there was one.

One red strawberry, left all alone.
Mouse came and ate it and then there were none.

Even though I was doing the storytime, I tried to stick to Miss Marie’s songs to keep things consistent for those in the storytime session.  I did use a different version of Ladies Ride, though.   So here are our  usual songs and bounces as well as a nursery rhyme and tickle. I  All are listed below (with lyrics):

OUR OPENING SONGS:

Welcome, Welcome

Welcome, welcome everyone,

Now we’re here, let’s have some fun

First we clap our hands just so,

Then we bend and touch our toes

Welcome, welcome, everyone

Now we’re here, let’s have some fun!

Clap Everybody and Say Hello!

sally go round the sun

Clap everybody and say hello,

Clap everybody and say hello,

Clap everybody and say hello,

No matter what the weather…

Tiny little babies love bouncin’ bouncin’

The Grand Old Duke of York

The grand old Duke of York,

He had 10,000 men,

He marched them up to the top of the hill, (hold baby up in the air)

And he marched them down again! (bring baby down to lap)

And when they’re up, they’re up, (hold baby high again)

And when they’re down, they’re down, (bring baby back down to lap)

And when they’re only halfway up, (hold baby halfway up from lap)

They’re neither up (bring baby up)

Nor down! (bring baby back down to lap)

Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

OUR TICKLE:

These are baby’s fingers, (touch child’s fingers)

These are baby’s toes, (touch child’s toes)

Round and round it goes! (gently tickle child’s tummy)

OUR CLOSING SONGS:

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Twinkle twinkle little star

How I wonder what you are

Up above the moon so high

Like a diamond in the sky

Twinkle twinkle little star

How I wonder what you are

Itsy Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout,

Down came the rain and washed the spider out!

Out came the sun that dried up all the rain

And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again!
