We had fun during our family storytime today! We explored stories about spiders, flies & other creepy crawly creatures. There was even a little bug eating going on…(well we didn’t really eat any bugs, but we did pretend). Below are some of the books, songs & fun activities we shared.
BOOKS:
Okay…why this story when we’re talking about bugs? Well what do frogs eat? Bugs! And what about this frog who wanted to be a cat, a pig…an owl??? Turns out when there’s a hungry wolf around, it pays to be a wet, slimy, bug-eating frog! Great illustrations, a touch of humor and good dialogue make this a good read aloud for preschoolers.
What happens when a tiny little fly buzzes in your ear? You try to swat it away right? So did the hippo, tiger and elephant in this story…but that pesky fly gets away EVERY TIME. Amazing illustrations and rhyming text made this a great read – the kids even tried to swat imaginary flies away from their ears…
This interactive story by Jan Thomas has all of the ingredients necessary to build listening and gross motor skills, plus, it’s funny! A bug plays his version of Simon Says as he demands that his readers stand up, sit down, no…stand up again…and SO ON. Then, of course a bug flies around and gets into our mouths and our shirts and we have to blow and wiggle our bodies to get rid of it! Then there’s that BIG FROG at the end…that’s where the scary face comes in handy. A lot of laughter and movement with this story!
