Kids came to Central Library’s Donald Wright Auditorium tonight to do battle in Pasadena’s own Lucha Libros reading competition, answering questions about the book Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe. They did a wonderful job answering questions about the plot and characters, and a high number of kids got 100% of them right! We got some new prizes that were a big hit, espeically the Star Wars stuff. Most important, it was a thrill just hearing the kids shout with joy when they got an answer right. Some even did a happy dance. The program really makes a sport out of reading and judging from all the right answers and smiling faces, these kids are feeling like champions!

It’s amazing how the kids all show different personalities during the discussion part of the event!  Falisha and I were talking afterward about how you could tell which kids are analytical, or no-nonsense, or artistic, or scientific, just based on the way they interpret the book and the way they answer the questions.  We were blown away by how confident and intellectual these second and third graders are!

Do you know a 2nd or 3rd grader who might enjoy this program?  Please have them call (626) 744-4725 to sign up.  It’s not too late to get in on this fun!
