We read some funny stories about EATING and BAKING cakes & cupcakes (but not necessarily in that order).  Here are some of the books & activities we shared:

BOOKS:

george

Poor George the dog wants to be good and make his owner Harry proud, but he just can’t resist getting into mischief while Harry is away!  The story opens with George trying to fight the urge to eat the cake that Harry has left on the kitchen counter but….well you can probably guess what happens.  (He eats the whole thing!)  His antics don’t stop there – there’s still a cat to chase,

red hen

A modern re-telling of the classic tale, The Little Red Hen.  In Rebecca and Ed Emberly’s version, the hen bakes a cake instead of bread and (as in the original) she  asks her friends the cat, the rat and the frog to help her.  None of them are willing to lift a finger until she asks:  “And who will help me eat this cake?”  To which they all answer, “I WILL!”  By that time the hen was wise to their laziness and decides to eat the cake all by herself.  The illustrations are wild and crazy and the story’s repetitive nature make it a good fit for the preschool crowd.
